Her Life on Camera!

Tullula does not talk yet, but she is really able to comunicate with a few words and a lot of sigh language and some grunting I will admit. I guess parents are also realy able to understand their own children.
I seem to have conversations with her, I just know what she is telling me, its strange!
One thing that she has been loving to do is see herself on the camera, after all there must be something great about that little black box that Momy or Papa has in front on their face every day, so she too want to see!
But what she loves to do, is pose, with something and make us take a photo, or ten, of some odd things for her to then look at!
Like this time, we had been on a walk with the Trike, and collected flowers and rocks and shells, well once we got back to the camp, I had to take a photo all of the things she had found, she posing nicely while I took the photo's and then off she went to get another and another! Then she had to look at all the photo's and was pleased with her doing!

Hippie's

I love to explore the human race, all the different cultures and back grounds!
So I have decided to get down and try to get some answers to some of my questions!
What is it to be a hippy?
I have asked a whole bunch of people, on face book, on dust, by email and in class.
It has been very interesting to see some people that I would not imagine, pull out of the conversation and not wanting to be part of it! I wonder what are they afraid of? Why would one not want to answer a simple question?? Its almost as if they feel threatened! Oh well!!!

Now, well all know that hippy movement in the 1960ties that started off in the USA, with Woodstock, and that spread around the world. Wanting peace, making love, taking drugs I guess...Im sure there was a lot to fight for then, that the movement was soo big that one really could be and was a hippy!
But today, what is it to be a Hippy???
I have been called a hippy, and sure, I kinda like that, somehow if feels cool to be a Hippy! But really, am I a  Hippy?
When I lived in Paris I used to work in a cloths shop, and we sold all that kind of cloths from India, colourful, different, tie dye, and the people who came to buy them were far from conservative!
But I quickly realised that some of them were actually just following a fashion, like any other really!!!
So there is such a thing as fake Hippies??
Then I have also done a 2 day market at Nimbin (Well known, tourist destination, Hippie Town in Australia), and for sure there I saw some real Hippies.
But can I tell you, some of them too were actually fashion victims. Real Hippies, real fashion victims!!!
(and they were not very friendly either)
So there is the real deal not real either???
So Once again I ask myself, what is it to be a hippy???
We all know, or think that "peace and love", a nice Volkswagen Combi, some flowers in your hair or a flower dress, elephant pants, or big shades are the classic style of a hippy!
But really if that classifies a hippy, then almost the whole plant are hippy's!!!!
I saw a 60year old conservative lady with a flower dress...Im sure she was NOT a hippy!!!
Nor was the young hip girl in trendy cloth wearing BIG shades a hippy!

I think the term now gets used to easily, when we want to talk about the people who are not conservative, who sure don't follow the conventional style that the world has come to think is the "NORM"...I think it too often gets used in a very derogative way; so many times have a I heard "bloody hippies"!!!!
Yet we talk to fast maybe as no one seems to really know what a true hippie is!

So here are a few of the answers that I got:

  •  Hippy means many things to many people.
  • a child of the earth, a gentle soul who cant handle stress, conformity or structure, a daydreamer.
  • words that come to mind: freedom, open minded, free thinking, free spirited, all things natural, confidence, happiness, creative, uncorrupted.
  • someone who values life over money & materialism, chooses to live a different life compared to the "majority". Non conforming to the masses. One who seeks beyond the physical. Wears a flower in their hair!! Peace symbol, lots of colour and combi!
  • A way of dressing and living. One that travels with a back pack, that is content living day to day. Without ever loosing hope and a smile! Smooth drugs. To be in connection with nature.
  • People mix everything up!!! If you are not in the "NORM" you are something else and to label you Hippie suits them well! So if you like animals, don't stress out about things and even dare to wear a flowery dress, well your a hippie!
  • Although I think that hippy actually means many thigs to many people.
  • For many years I'd wanted to visit Nimbin, and I got to, on my honeymoon in 2000. I was so disappointed that I think I actually cried. That's not what hippy means to me. That was a dirty town with people drinking and smoking dope on the street, in the morning!
  • Hippy to me means an earth loving person. One who feels in tune with nature, the seasons, the sky - probably my definition is pretty much the same as what neo-pagan means.... a bit of a peace, love maaan thing - but with no drugs, just natural
  • About 25 years ago I knew quite a few people who lived just outside of Nimbin, and I used to visit fairly often. A couple who were good friends of mine had bought some land and moved there, intending to farm. The fellow was a very natural person and a good and knowledgable farmer. A country boy who was socially a progressive thinker, but in tune with the land. However, he was planning to move into horticulture, something he really knew very little about. The venture never got off the ground. It all fell apart for them. I think the 'hippie' culture of the place and some of the vultures who masqueraded as hippies sucked the true spirit out of them. Because they were genuinely giving people, my friends allowed people to camp and live on their land. As far as I could see, these people gave nothing back, not much practical help to finish buiding the main house or to tend the crops. All talk of peace and love and the environment, and that was all...
  • I was working as a trade union organiser at the time, a job which I later left because I was motivated to improve people's working lives, not to be part of the system. I worked hard, trying to make a difference to people who weren't paid much or who were experiencing problems at work. This is what the word 'hippie' means to me: sitting around a campfire with some guys who smoke all day, don't work and live on other people's property, being told that I should be ashamed of myself for living in the city (Brisbane) because I don't do anything to help the environment. Then one guy unwrapped some gladwrap from something and threw it in the fire. My friend the farmer was a gentle man who was what a hippie ought to be, but I don't like that word any more.
  • I think of "hippy" as someone in a dope-smoking flower child summer of 1969 time-warp (so you would have to be about 60 to be a real hippy). Ferals are a more recent variant (first seen in the early 1990s and I think still current), some people like the term "alternate lifestyle" which is more broad and vague
So I have come to the conclusion that the term "hippie" is used for all sorts of things, and that really today there a very few of them, and the one that are what we think to be hippie's are maybe just people living an alternative life style, out of the "box" that society has created to be some sort of "norm"...I now think that it more than often gets used in a derogative way just by those who feel threatened by someone who has the will and power to live a live that suits them better, even if it means being different!
Also today it is in fashion to look a little hippe, like those flower head bands that today's young girl wear! But trust me, looks dont mean a thing!!!

So my conclusion is; be who ever you want to be, don't worry about tagging things and just live and let live!

    Video: Under the Rain.

On our last camping trip it rained! Not too much I must say...Just the first evening and last day!
Somehow yet, that last day is the nicest memory I have of the whole trip.
The rain came slowly, in the morning we got to potter around and then Tullula and I went down to the creek while Stephen took a nap and we had so much fun with our feet/legs in the water, I skipping rocks and her throwing them at the count of three!
    We laughed out loud.
We looked at birds and tiny little fishes.
As we washed soggy old leaves from our toes.
Then we headed back to camp as the first light drops came down.
Our camp was all set up (unlike the first rain upon our arrival), so just as bit of rearranging but when the rain came in, setting in for the rest of the afternoon, we were all nice and cosy, under the tarp!
We played games, Memory, and Rummy. We drank The and Coffee and Hot Lemon for Tullula.
We ate snacks and just sat, listening to the pitter patter on the tarp!
    And Tullula discovered the Rain.
She had so much fun running off into it, trying to fill her bottle!
It was beautiful to watch and I cherish that day under the Rain.

When I was a Little girl, living on the Boat, the rain was very special!
It meant that we had to get washed, or more to the point that we were able to finally wash in fresh water!
It mean that we had to fill out water tanks, and we did so buy collecting the water that came down the sails, down the mast ropes, down a tarp that was put up creating a funnel, anywhere really that we could!
It was always a time of much joy!

    Almost Two.

Today Tullula is 23month's! Its amazing to think that she is getting so very close to being 2!
We are about to head into what so many people call the Terrible Two's! Well I will confess that I am not too sure I actually believe that there is such a thing, but hey we shall see what I have to say in a few months time, right?
One thing is for sure is that she HAS changed!
Its actually funny how changes happen with children, we truly feel/think that it happened during our last week end away....In just a few days.
She had become LITTLE MISS INDEPENDENT!
While we were camping she really wanted to do everything with me, wash the dishes, then carry the water bucket from the tap...innocent fun at first!
But then she wanted to prepare our coffee, pour the milk! And it got to the pint where she even wanted to pour the hot water! I had to say "NO" to that. I do let her do a lot, but I also have a limit!
Well, one could of thought it was the end of the world! Tullula screamed and kicked and threw herself on the ground and that went on for a while...There was not much I could do!!! Oh La La!!!!
Then another change that has happened is that she only want me; to feed her, to give her her milk, to dress her, well actually that she want to do alone...But what I mean is that Stephen is no good any more, she almost screams "NO" "Momy" when he is about to do something for her, to help her!
I remember my little brother going throw that when he was about 2, all he wanted was my mother, his mother!
So, we have entered another stage of Tullula's life, one where she is trying to do things for herself, yet not completely able and getting frustrated at it! One where her mind in now more able to interact with ours, yet there is not the language skills! That too can be very frustrating!
So we need to be extra more patient and be like little invisible helper's!
I like this new stage, there are a lot of things we are going to be able to do together!
And I think I will get myself some ear plugs, as she is loving being able to scream "MOMY" over and OVER again!

    Le Reve D'étre!

All the peace, wisdom and joy in the universe
    are already within us;
    we dont have to gain,
    develop or attain them.

    We merely need to
    open our eyes
and realise what is already here,
    and what we really are.

I found this in a book of thougts!
Its quite apropriate for me at this time in life (and many passed and to come im sure).

We are going camping for 5 days. Not on the Ocean but in the woods!
    Away from the world!
Im exited and hope to come back out feeling anew!

    Un Christmass...

    I dont do Christmas...
I find myself saying that a lot lately...I guess its because that time of the year is here again!
Sure I did Christmas with my family, but really it did not happen every year. As some years my parents just did not have the money to buy anything! I do have some wonderful Christmas Memories as I have some really horrible one's of family come over to see us in the Seychelles and BANG a big family argument so in spite they kept all the presents that were intended for us!!!
So we just learnt to accept that it was not always a given...
Then I moved away and as a young adult did not see the need for Christmas, away from family...
My most horrible Christmas experiences were while I was an Au-pair in the USA...There were SO SO SO many gift's. So many that some did not even get opened and were brought out again the following Christmas...I did not understand...I had seen so much misery in my life and here all was in excess...Disgusting.
I hate the fact that Cola Cola has "Made" Christmas red...It's green the colour of Christmas!!!
Ok, I dont like all those commercial holidays...I confess....
Yes, now I have a child and I must not be selfish, I must think of her...yet we have decided not to do it this year (dint last year either)...I dont know how we will handle it in the future yet, but for now Tullula just really has no clue what's going on, so we are not going to bother with it!
But I wonder, how do the Muslins do it, or the Buddhist, Hindus??? Do they do Christmas living in a coutry where EVERY one seems to do it? What do they tell their children!!!!
I could get some good idea's from them....

    Every body's Elses World!

Sometimes I just get sick of it all!
I get so tired of the world we live in, and just feel like going back to the Ocean. I just want to float in the middle of no where, be with the wind, sun, Ocean and the fish a birds. Watch the sun set and rice and not worry about anything!!!
I grew up with a father that did not stop comparing us with other. I think it was his way to try to get us to work harder...He constantly criticised, well the French are pretty good at that!
There are a lot of all that upbring that I dont agree with...yet I must confess I get stuck in it all!
Its not an easy task breaking free from a pattern that was done for so many years...So every now and then, I start to think that my life sucks, and I look around and think that every one seems so happy, that they are all doing such wonderful things!!!
Its wrong...But I will confess that as a society we also do it to each other..."Oh, how often do you get to surf?"-"I go everyday"....Yeah, well thats great!!! Or I get frustrated with those who boast about the fact that their kids dont go to day care...Sure, I would do that too...If I had someone to help me once in a while!!!! Dont judge me, when you dont even know that I dont have any family or even 1 friend I can call on if needed!!! I am frustrated at how our body's get looked at, as if we are never skinny enough, or good looking or what size bra we wear, if any!!! (my boobs are so so small, I dont need a bra, there is nothing to support)...Where is Tullula? "at day care" -No she is not punished, its not a punishment to go to day care. I have to work and unfortunately she cant come with me, not do i have a best friend that can take care of her!
And yes I only live in a little unit, and no Im not a social case! I just dont have the means to buy a house, let alone rent one! Why, do we get put into boxes??? I feel like no matter what I do, its never good enough!
I really get sick of it all.
    It makes me grumpy.
    It makes me depressed.

    Searching for the French!

Its Funny how when we live in a country we go over sea's to get away from all the rest just like us!
    To feel different, special maybe!
But when you live somewhere, and its not your Native country, you earn for that contact of your fellow country men!
In any case, I feel like that!!!!
I long to have people to talk to in French, to have things in common, to talk about the same music and culture! To eat GOOD cheese and drink wine sitting at a dinner table for hours.....
So, last week we went to the Beaujolais Nouveaux opening night! In hopes to meet some Frenchies that live on the Coast!
It was a great occasion to get dressed up, how good it can feel!
    We had appetisers and wine...
And No I did not meet any French, but Australians that want to practise their French!!!

    Mail In the Box!

I got a parcel from Singapore. My Brother and his girl friend were there for a while!
It made me realise how today we hardly get any mail. Most mail we get are bills, ads or mail thats not for us but the last tenants.
    How exiting!!!!
But this time it was not just a post card, but a big envelope!
A scarf, a sarong, an elephant mail rack, all the colours that I love and all with love and a lot of thought. Just for me!
    How lovely!!

    No Longer a Baby!

She really is no longer a baby, but a little girl! I have realised that I get so caught up in daily routine, work, study, cook, clean that I have not opend up my eyes to see how much she has grown!!!

Plus last time I went to weight and measure her she had not put on any weight and it got me all worried, doctor, naturopath we went to see!!! Only to be told that I just had to carry on doing what I was doing!!
Thanks, but what am I doing right???
    She wont eat!!!
    Ok, what ever....

Just the last week, stephen was working nigth shift so we got to spend the evening together and it was wonderful!!! I looked at her like I never have before, and saw how grown up she has become! We played on my massage table, she was too cuet! Its great to see how they discover things and how much we can make it all seem so much more exiting by playing along!
Is that not what parenting is about? Helping our little one discover the world, being there for them??
All they want is our attention and love...

Every day now I try hard not to get caught up in live, but be right here; present for my lovely little girl and her big blue eye's!

I am sure you must all be sick of Charlie Morland!!
Good thing that in reality no one is really reading my blog!!!
So this is for Tullula, for her to look at in many years to come...Im sorry to say that there still is one video to go, and then I can move onto something else!
But if you missed out on the first two, here they are :Part One and Part Two.

    Bus of Ours

While we were overseas Stephen's sister sold us her Bus!
We thought we should get it, as previously we had been travelling in his Van, and the Bus seemed like a step up...And reality was that we thought at least we will have a Home to go back to in Australia! And, lets face it, buying a second hand bus is a lot cheaper than buying a house!!!!
But, once we got back we lived with his mother for a few months, then we started renting this little Unit we are living in now, and the bus has juts been sitting in the driveway. Not too sure what its doing there!
We tried many times to get it ready to go travelling with friends and family, but we never actually got things finished! Money and time too short!
But we have been at it once more, and it looks like we may have it ready for our next camping trips!
Its really very exiting, a whole new adventure! I have never lived in a bus!!!!
I have painted the inside yellow, to go with the stares that are on the ceiling inside. I sanded the kitchen table bench and polished all the wood trimmings inside...As well as cleaned the window tracks!!
