As first time parents, we tend to worry a bit too much about bumps, falls and all that stuff!!
But one time we did not really worry on the spot but two days later!! And Boy oh boy what a story it turned out to be!
On the Wednesday, I was carrying Tullula on my hip, and somehow as I walked down the hall way, I mis-judge the space we had, and "BANG" Tullula's head hit the corner of the concrete wall.
She cried and VERY quickly a bump/lump on her head formed!!!
We got her to calm down and applied ice to her head...
The day went on...
But on Friday evening, she vomits, twice...For no apparent reason!!! I worry a bit, and don't sleep well that night...But live still goes on...
Then on Sunday, she is walking around nudie, and we see that she is about to do a #2, so quickly we get the potty out...And let me tell you, what came out was a huge surprise!!!
very much like clay, and very pale...Now we worry, and start looking up on the internet for some info as to what could that mean???!!!!!
What we find is not very reassuring, "liver problems" "kidney malfunction"...Ok, we need to worry now!!
So we call the 13Health Info line, and ask..The lady we talk to says, that its nothing, that we just need to monitor Tullula...So we hang up...yet, we are still not satisfied, and put all the events together and start to think of a possible concussion!!!
So we call back the Health Info Line, this time with more details of the week, yet stephen and I can't agree on the date at witch she got her head bumped!!! But the lady on the line this time, says that we need to take her to the Hospital right away...
Its about 6; 7pm buy now...And off we go to the
Hospital, Emergencies!
We walk in the with a baby with maybe a concussion???
So the wait is not very long...but Tullula really is acting well...well I know that she is not a 100%, but still she is not acting like a really sick child...The doctors a confused!
To my greatest surprise, they are not even interested at looking at the pretty stool sample I have in my bag...that does not worry them at all!!!
So, they decide to do some test. Urine test!!
So here we are in Observation, Tullula with a back attached to her, to catch the Urine!! Us desperately trying to get her to drink, sip, anything but get some fluid and wee, PLEASE!!!
We have never been so happy to finally see her fill that little bag in between her legs!
And off it goes to the Lab...But for sure it comes back positive...Yet the doctor is not satisfied, as these things can get infected with contact with the skin. So they want to do a
Urethral Catheterization.
It does not sound very good or pleasant but we need to know, so we go ahead with it!!!
Hoping that there will be something in the bladder!!!
A team of 3 nurses come to do the procedure, and I can tell you it was not nice...And the worst part was that there was nothing coming out!
So they stop...And leave us alone...Tullula with another bag in between her legs... We can hear the doctor and nurses talking about what to do next....They don't want to do another
Urethral Catheterization.
So we get sent home, with a little sample tube for what ever gets into the bag that they leave on her...
As you can imagine we are tired...And now just suspect that she may just have a Urine Infection!!!
The next morning, Steve, drop off the sample tube, with what she did as soon at we got home the night before..They ask him to wait for the results....
Positive...But we are told that again, it could of gotten infect at home...So off to Observation Tullula goes again! Another bag attached to her...Its a long wait...She even get her very first pop sickle!!! That I eat, as she is not interested!!
The doctor tell me that if this bag come back Positive again, that this time we will HAVE do to another
Urethral Catheterization
And yes, that bag too came back Positive!!!
But they once again discuss it all, and really don't want to have to do another procedure on Tullula, its so unpleasant for them, ext ext....
So we get sent home, and told we have to just keep a close observation on Tullula...
Once I got home, I think all the stress of it all and the Exhaustion, I had to look at it all in a comical way...And I had a good good laugh at the fact that we started off with a Kidney/liver problem, went on to a Concussion and finished with a Positive Urine Infection and got sent home with nothing!!!
But one that Sunday Night, we did win something!! Mr Teddy.
There is this scheme, that at the hospital they give second hand teddy bear to the sick children...Something to play with, keep them busy...So we got one too...yet, up until that point Tullula had never shown any interest in her teddy's at home that have been with her ever since her birth..(the my greatest satisfaction as I don't really like teddy's) and when this little Orange with was given to her she did not really care!
But we had to take him home, as we were told that once given to a child, they go into the garbage...Hygiene and standards! So we did...
And back in the car, we saw and heard the loveliest thing...Tullula was holding the Teddy, and looking in his eye's and having one great big conversation with him...She did the same the next day...And till that day, he had been her dearest friend! Its so so sweet...And Mr Teddy is part of the family...
I encougae you to read the news article that talks about
The Teddy Story .
